상하이로 복귀

쑤저우에서 다시 상하이로 무사히 넘어왔습니다. 저야 아직 북경 등 북쪽 지역에 가 본 적이 없기 때문에 아직 잘 모르겠지만, 어제 중국에서 인턴쉽을 하기 위해서 상해에 도착한 다른 친구들 중 북경 쪽에 몇 개월 살다 온 친구들의 이야기를 들으니 역시 북방과 남방의 중국어가 많이 다르다고 하더군요. 저는 그래도 조금이나마 이쪽 상하이 쪽 억양에 익숙한 것 같은데, 둘 다 배워서 자유롭게 따라할 수 있다면 정말 좋겠다는 바램이... ^^ (마치 전형적인 미국식 영어와 전형적인 영국식 영어를 흉내내는 것처럼 말이죠.)

여름이라 더운 건 당연하지만, 정말 습하면서 더워서 매일 매일 땀이 비오듯 흘려내립니다. 실내에는 어딜 가나 시원한 에어컨이 있지만, 잠깐만 밖에 나가도 쏟아지는 땀은 막을 수가 없네요.

초반 2주간을 중국에서 거의 혼자서, 그리고 아는 사람들을 통해 만나 또 알게 된 사람들 사이에서 지내면서 중국어가 부족함으로 인해서 느끼는 불편이 별로 없었던 것이 반해서, 어제 상해에 온 순간부터는 중국어를 굉장히 잘 하는 다른 한국 친구들을 보면서 상당한 자극을 받았습니다. 지금보다 더 열심히 노력해야겠고, 이 친구들에게서 부끄러움을 무릎쓰고 많이 배워야하겠다는 ^^ 생각을 했습니다. 중국에서 이미 1년 가까이 공부를 해서 중국어가 아주 유창함에도 불구하고 또 다시 새로운 기회를 찾아서 인턴십을 하러 중국에 돌아온 친구들을 보면서 정말 대단하다는 생각도 많이 했고요. 좋은 시간들을 보내고 가시기를!! 그리고 저에게도 중국어를 많이 많이 가르쳐 주시기를...^^!

어제는 새로 이사 들어온 집의 수도관이 파열 됐습니다. 수리공 아저씨가 오기로 한 시간이 되어도 오지 않아서 기다리다가 결국은 경비 아저씨한테 가서 최대한 열심히 설명을 했더니 도와주시더군요. 수도관을 뭐라고 하는지도, 뭔가가 고장 났다고 말하는 방법도 몰랐었는데, 이번 기회에 확실히 배웠습니다. 모든 일에는 이유가 있는 것 같다는 생각이 듭니다. (그냥 나름대로 의미 부여인지도 모르겠지만...)

I came back to Shanghai from Suzhou. I haven't been to any cities in the northern part of China like Beijing but the students who came to Shanghai yesterday for their internship told me that the language is indeed very different between the northern and the southern parts of the country. If asked which of them I'm more used to, I would of course choose the southern accent, but I wish I could freely imitate both of the accents one day, just like people do with the typical American accent and the typical British accent.

It is Summer now, so it's perfectly a matter of fact that it's hot, but this is way hotter than in Korea... makes you sweat all over. You have the shield of airconditioning when you are inside a building, but you can't stop the sweat dropping down your forehead after a few minutes of stepping outside.

I spent the first few days among my acquantances and some new acquantances I got to knew through them, so I didn't have to suffer that much from my lack of knowledge in Chinese, but the moment I came to Shanghai, I was seized with jealousy for and motivation to learn from the other Korean student who speak really good Chinese. Some of them even spent nearly a year in China and speak excellent Chinese and they are back here now for a new challenge and new opportunities in the internship experience. Isn't that great? I hope they will all have a fantastic time here, and teach me more Chinese too!

Last night the water pipe in the house that my friend and I just moved into. I was waiting for the pipe repairman but he didn't show up at the time he was supposed to, so I had to go to the concierge to explain the situation. I didn't even know how to say a 'water pipe' or 'it's broken' but I learned those expression by heart today. Everything surely happens for a reason, if I'm not just trying to give whatever meaning I can find. :-)
